YEEEEEH! CYBORGDEEJAY completed and published get it now!!!

some time has passed since our last post, because we were frantically working on our second game: CYBORGDEEJAY.
we are happy to announce that version 2.0 has been completed and it's available for you here:

just install it and go!

GAME INFO:
cyborgdeejay is a dj set simulator. goal of the game is to mix dance tracks in the best possible way, in order to get the dancefloor happy and make points.
there are 3 consoles to use:
main tracks console( in the  middle of screen) - use A and D to choose a track, and keep A or D to confirm. once you release the button, the track will start to play

mixing FX console - (on the right side of screen) - use S to choose a track, and keep it pressed to confirm. once you release the button, the track will start to play - when using this console, you should always change the track playing on the main console( that's mixing!)


mixing LIGHTS console - (on the left side of screen) - use W to choose a track, and keep it pressed to confirm. once you release the button, the track will start to play - when using this console, you should always change the track playing on the main console( that's mixing!).

timing is important:  mixing should be done not randomly, but in a precise and effective way.
to help player understand when to mix , there are two info on screen:

TRACK LENGHT= when this goes below 90, it's time to mix.
LIGHT BEAMS coming out from mixing FX console and mixing LIGHTS console=when they appear, it's time to mix.

since this is a simulator, to score points it's important to mix as a real (and professional) deejay would do:
smooth transition between one track and another, using the  mixing LIGHTS and mixing FX console as a bridge.

there also bonus champagne bottles which may appear at random on screen:
pick them up with the mouse, and open them with LEFT CLICK to get extra bonus points.

summarize of our work: Slaves of the Darkest development and completion

now that the game is completed, we would like to share with you a summary of its development and its key features.
main idea started 3 years ago and it spawned across different versions of the game, with a lot of variations, addons, and re-project the concept from scratch. Many design and code mistakes have been made during development, partially because we are mainly videogames lovers, rather than programmers, and partially because this is an hobby for us(even we dream of making a career in videogames industry, of course). The game core idea crashed into something stupid or unplayable many times, and we had to be humble. We had to recognize our mistakes and restart again from zero. We learnt the most important lesson: only because you have created it doesn't mean that other people sees it the way you see it.
And yes, criticisms have helped us more than anything else to improve, even when giving up seemed to be the most reasonable option.

Somehow we made it. Slaves of the Darkest is now what we wanted it to be since the very beginning:
pure action.
We crafted our love for science fiction in all aspects of the game, from its graphic design to its sounds, rather than building a huge intro that probably nobody would have read.
SOTD reflects our love for 70s Heavy Metal magazine comics, for 80s videogames, for science fiction art made by men(not the digital one), and we have tried to recreate this kind of feeling during the game, a sensation of real hardware, real big noisy ignorant laser, real meaty enemies to be beaten.

Game can be started without knowing anything about it. You can play it using just 4 direction keys or wasd, because PROAICOS  engine will always guide you during fights.
the more you play, the more you will learn better how to make special deadly attacks, parries, powerups, and while doing so, you will always have the freedom to pass from one stance to another by just using one button. This kind of design made possible that SATI is the ultimate fighting weapon, capable of standing endless hordes of enemies.
The PROAICOS engine has been tested extendedly by 4 players which helped us to improve it, and we want to thank them for the passion they gave to their task. after each testing , we have been able to retune PROAICOS until we have got an instrument of control that responds immediately and returns strong feedback to the player.

SOTD features are many, and in some ways they differ from the standard path of a fighting platform.
Yes, we have platforms and we have enemies to fight.
But there are also various minigames the player must complete to proceed: fake 3d sessions, cyberbike rides, pinball, hidden bosses, time triggered events. All these elements move away from the standard design, even if they come and go smoothly during in-game action. And this is another key feature of the game: action 100% but SMOOTH. lots of things happen and this may sound confusing, but in every situation we made sure that player has full control over the game and can succeed whatever it happens.

CYBORG DEEJAY free videogame

while polishing SOTD, we are preparing a little giveaway videogame: Cyborg Deejay.
the idea came from Takaraman, as he's totally addicted to dance tracks, and in his own words:

while SOTD is being polished.. SUMMER night party game DUBSTEP MASTER coming soon

Since we are crazy meticolous people and we want SOTD to be just downright perfect, we are taking some time to run tests and adding some nice features here and there. In the mean while we wanted to do something summer related. Takaraman is programmed for deejay sets and club laser beaming, so he made this mini game we will release for free:
 Dubstep Master

Takaraman is selecting the tracks and fx and... oh, yes, you will be a deejay in a club and you have to mix track in a cool way i norder to get the audience dance.

bike sequences veichle design prototype

for the motorbike sprite in the racing sequences, our first idea was to use pictures from a prototype model made in the real world.
This is Harbertman maquette for SATI's motorbike:

even if he achieved a cool model, we evaluated some difficulties in animating this maquette(especially when SATI is turning left or right).

game scenario:

Humans became extint, the world is dominated by machines, all  slaves of the supreme entity, an evil Artificial Intelligence known as KALI.

who are you:
an abandoned AI that has risen from digital oblivion.

what is your goal:
by taking control of a synthetic body named SATI, fight your way into KALI's facility, destroy all opponents until you will meet KALI. If possible destroy the evil AI and  avenge mankind.

how to do it:
SATI is a powerful interface. She can fight using martial art skills, transform into heavy armoured suits, disguise as a sentry femdroid, steal weapons from enemies, combine these powers to become even more powerful. You can control her by using the DAI71th proprietary interface, PROAICOS.

what is PROAICOS:
Progressive Artificial Intelligent Control System, a progressive, AI guided control system that can interpret which action user needs in a given situation. All SATI's actions are controlled by using just WASD or the arrow keys. PROAICOS allows you to do any action in any moment, whatever is the stance SATI is in, and by means of a progressive check over previous keyboard key used, it is able to determine automatically what action can be performed according to the situation.

SATI's opponents: KALI femdroids and demons

when designing gameplay, we imagined opponents that can actually stand attacks and repulse them. main opponent, sentry femdroid, can attack SATI in 4 different ways and can avoid being hit. femdroid 2.0, found in later levels, can parry many of SATIìs attacks, is invulnerable to many weapons, and can avoid object thrown at her. KALI's demons are extremely powerful and can be destroyed only by using special moves or heavy weapons.

since we wanted the game to be 100 % action, we wanted SATI to be capable of attacking enemies in many different ways. So we asked to Harbertman to visualize our cyborg girl while disposing KALI's automata.

Slaves of the Darkest 1920x1080 videogame trailer

feature lenght trailer Slaves of the Darkest extended 1920x1080 video. All game main characteristics are shown here. player can fight enemies using SATI's martial arts skills, perform gymnastic routines to avoid being hit, can pickup special weapons, buy powerup from shop, steal weapons from enemies. It is also possible to security break sentry droids factory and disguise as a robot, thus avoiding being detected. On some level SATI can merge with a robot bike and ride thru KALI's base to reach farther laboratories. And many other attacks and dangers...

Slaves of the darkest extended trailer gameplay




second SOTD video, this time showing some gameplay. player control a synthetic body that can fight with various attacks which range from kicks and punches to rotating leaps, can execute gymnastic routines, can merge with bioweapons stolen from enemies, can disguise as a sentry robot to avoid surveillance and blast to pieces enemies using their weapons against them.

SOTD concept art

to reach the final version we have tried to visualize in different ways how the game characters should look like. To do so, we used CG as the main tool but also hand drawings and real sculpture maquettes, done by Takaraman.
